Sicksicksick
-My hair is mostly sticking straight up. I miss my long hair. -I feel kind of like I am floating when I stand up. Not sure if this is a consequence of my sickness, or of laying around all day, or of my new glasses prescription. -My dreams the past few nights were almost entirely in Spanish. -I mostly feel like lying around, and again, I can’t be sure that’s just being sick or...

By the way, Sydney also recommends thekitchn.com. The lack of “e” is not a typo. Good luck!

adamwgarland asked: Two questions.

One, what blogs do you recommend for the budding baker / cook / awesome person?

Two, how's the haircut?! Did Griffin take pics?

Miserable sick.
1. New glasses picked up, and are adorable. 2. Haircut rescheduled for tomorrow, because of the snow and my aching head.

In honor of Chopping My Hair Off Tomorrow
“One of the most basic marks of feminine beauty is thick, lustrous hair. When my hair started falling out, I felt a little like I was being punished for some unknown sin. The sin of writing a body image blog. The sin of eating cookies all the time. Something like that. The only thing that made me feel better was imagining shaving my head. Just getting rid of the shame and the awkwardness...

An inkling--A New Direction to Take?
I feel like I won’t be believed, but I have been considering the symptoms of adult ADD as applying to my case since this summer, and I am sort of hoping I could try medication. Celexa didn’t work, Prozac doesn’t seem to be working, and counseling as well goes in cycles. I hear all these voices (no, hear me out, I’m not schizophrenic) saying, “Yeah, but it isn’t...

Dear Potential Suitor, Forgive me. I am looking at Moby wraps.  This means my interests always lean about 10 years past my current age, always. Yes, it’s a problem. But oh god, the babies! -e

Come on, type type type.
My head is aching, and I think I probably have a cold. Okay, okay. Push through, right?! I can write at least 2 pages. Easily 4. And after that, 6 pages is not much more. I can add details and explain myself further: 8. And if I know myself well enough, I can make it to 9 pages, past 10, maybe 11 or more. But this won’t happen if I don’t start typetypetyping.  … Ibuprofen...

Mantra for tonight:
Turning in something is better than turning in nothing. I hope I don’t get snowed in tonight, or I might have to miss my haircut tomorrow!

Quivering Daughters →
I am doing some research about quiverfull families, and was led to this site, which is a supportive, Christian-oriented community for adult women struggling with spiritual abuse of some sort or another. For my part, I no longer consider myself a Christian, nor do I imagine that my minor feelings of spiritual abuse are any grander than they are. Nevertheless, reading from this site made me feel a...

I feel like I need to gather community around me....
Hey all! I’m tossing around the idea of having homemade breakfast goods in my room next semester, having my door open from 7:30 to 9:30. I would bake scones or biscuits or granola or something the night before, and in the morning wake up early to read quietly or meditate at about 7:15. (Knowing me, this is a mildly deranged idea, since it is very difficult for me to lug myself out of bed any...

Panic Button
When it gets to be late, my sense of panic draws into me, and I have momentary freakouts where I feel pulled in so many directions at once. I am glad I’ve got someone who is usually around to keep me motivated and relatively calm when I feel like this. Very, very glad.

– High Heels & Two Wheels Well, you’re right, no one does that. But you know what you shouldn’t do? Malign women who are the subjects of photographs that objectify them. This is called slut-shaming, and our culture teaches women to do it to each other so we never address the oppressive structure...

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
parrishthethought: My new years resolution for the year 2011 is…. GROW OUT MY HAIR. I cut it last April into pixie, and I have said a few times that I’ll never grow it out again. But I think if I have it long, I’ll want it short. If I have it short, I’ll want it long. I’ve grown it from a pixie before, I know I can do it. I’ll let this picture of Carey Mulligan (who I’m currently obsessed with...

Trip to the monastery is called off, yet we meet to depart for the Creation Museum at 11. Do I go back to bed, or do I explore this wild world of being awake before 8 am?!

Late to bed.
I’ve gotta say, I’ve had more definitively RA-y experiences this month than I have had in the two semesters as an RA prior to now.

It's snowing like crazy.
For our Sociology of American Religion field trip tomorrow, we are driving two hours north to a monastery and then finishing the evening at the Creation Museum. I will be kind of bummed to miss the monastery, but I have no qualms not providing more monetary pocket lining to Answers in Genesis (or rather, Ken Ham) than it already has.

Getting a big trim? Where to donate if Locks of...
In high school, I chopped off my long hair for Locks of Love. Since then, I have dyed my hair and not grown it out quite so long, though I am planning to get much more cut off. With such a big trim, I was sure I could find some charity that would accept my hair. Indeed, there’s Pantene’s wig-making program. Or, I thought about donating it to Matter of Trust, which creates mats and...

I purloined raisins from the dining hall.
Must make more scones! My mind is bubbling with ideas for delicious condiments to serve on them or fresh biscuits. I make a delightful lemon curd and chocolate ganache, and bourbon jelly would be heavenly, too.
